Today’s news pretty much puts the kibosh on any thoughts of them getting back together. In 2008, they put an end to a five year break, after they imploded amongst news of Weiland fighting wth the DeLeo brothers.Ģ010 saw the band release their first album in nine years but since then, the band have gone quiet, with Weiland announcing a new solo tour. After their swift rise to fame in the 1990s with hits such as ‘Interstate Love Song’ and ‘Plush,’ they became one of the most influential bands associated with the grunge scene. Things have never been plain sailing for the alt-rockers, though. There had been no word from either Weiland or the remaining members of STP. Last year, Slash let slip that Scott had been fired by the band, after playing with him in Velvet Revolver. This isn’t the first that we’ve heard of internal fractions within Stone Temple pilots though. Their PR sent a brief email, received by MTV News, which read “Stone Temple Pilots have announced they have officially terminated Scott Weiland.” That was the entirety of the email, though their PR rep promised that further details will come soon, regarding the split. They may have killed his dreams but Weiland, it appears, is alive and well, though his band no longer want him around, it seems. Clearly, we have been watching too many action movies. Apparently, Weiland thinks the replacement is not only unethical to him, but also dishonest to fans of the band. His statement comes on the heals of a few gigs that the remaining members of STP performed with Linking Park lead singer Chester Bennington in California recently. So if my former bandmates want to tour with a new singer, that's their prerogative. In it, Weiland claimed: "Like any band that's stood the test of time and made music for more than two decades, STP had a special alchemy - the four of us together were greater than any one of us apart. The alternative rocker explained himself in a statement on his website earlier this week, USA Today reports. After he split up from bandmates Dean DeLeo, Robert DeLeo and Eric Kretz, Weiland maintains that the band is no longer the same – to the point where it shouldn’t be called Stone Temple Pilots anymore. Stone Temple Pilots, the band, is pressing on with performances, but former vocalist Scott Weiland isn’t happy.
